Klopp asserts that the Reds lack the financial resources to acquire the PSG forward, even on loan.
The suggestion that Liverpool will recruit Kylian Mbappe this summer has been mocked by Jurgen Klopp.
Al-Hilal made a record-breaking £259 million offer for the France captain, which Paris Saint-Germain accepted rather than risk losing the attacker this summer on a free transfer.
Liverpool had been mentioned as a potential destination for Mbappe on a season-long loan but they were unable to make a comparable offer, and Klopp quickly eliminated them from consideration.
“We laugh about it,” he said to Sky Germany. “I think he’s a really good player, but the financial situation doesn’t work for us at all,” I can say. I don’t want to spoil the tale right away, but from what I can see, there is nothing to it.
“It’s possible that a different club member is planning a surprise for me, but that hasn’t happened in the eight years I’ve been here. That would be the initial occurrence.
Instead, after losing Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabian teams, Klopp is trying to strengthen his midfield. Romeo Lavia of Southampton is a target, and Liverpool has already had one bid for the 19-year-old turned down.
Mbappe, on the other hand, was not included in the Paris Saint-Germain team for their preseason tour and may sign with Real Madrid in 2019.
