When Manuel Neuer recovers from a broken leg, he will not be given the captaincy of Germany and may never play again for his nation.

Upon his recovery from his fractured leg, experienced goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will no longer serve as Germany’s captain.

Since breaking his leg in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps last December, the 37-year-old has been sidelined.

Neuer started working out again in August, but his return was postponed last month after he was left off of Bayern Munich’s roster for a match against SC Preussen Munster in the German DFB Cup.

Since making his international debut in 2009, the goalkeeper has been a pillar of the German team. He has played 117 times for his country and was appointed captain in 2017.

If injured again and returns to the national team, Neuer won’t be reinstated as captain, according to new Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann.
