Why Wilt Chamberlain must be remembered as the “Greatest of all time?

Comparing players and teams is one of the most popular article kinds on this website, and it may be a pleasant way to kill time.

Thousands and thousands of comments have been left on several articles debating whether LeBron James or Kobe Bryant is a superior player.

Even more articles have questioned if Kobe should be listed alongside Jordan; in fact, the debate over this topic often gets so intense that it’s as if the people making these comments aren’t even old enough to be in elementary school.

Similar comparisons make up the majority of the questions on the “Short List”; one of them asks, “Jordan or Russell?” In reality, a lot of the publications I come across defer to Michael Jordan as the best player of all time when it comes to this subject.

When compiling a list of the greatest NBA players ever, names like Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Oscar Robertson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Hakeem Olajuwon, and more modern stars like Kevin Garnett, Allen Iverson, Paul Pierce, and Tim Duncan are invariably listed.

Even if there are good reasons to believe that each of these players is among the greatest in NBA history, Wilt Chamberlain’s achievements are far greater than any of these players’. Although Chamberlain is frequently named among them, he is still regarded as a backup.

Even I have been guilty of not always giving The Big Dipper (don’t call him Wilt “The Stilt”; he detested that nickname) credit that he deserves. However, after going back and reviewing some of the game’s history, I’ve come to the conclusion that I can no longer support such egregious inaccuracy. With all due respect to Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain is without a doubt the best player in NBA history.

For a variety of reasons, Witt is never given his due

A never-ending supply of ignorance about Wilt Chamberlain and the era he played can be found on message boards and blogs across the Internet, in print and online articles and columns, and on sports news television.
