In Sunday’s victory over the Utah Jazz, Sacramento Kings center Domantas Sabonis achieved a number of goals, but one of them places him in particularly exceptional company.
With six assists and eleven rebounds at the end of Sunday’s game, Sabonis’s season totals now stand at 1007 rebounds and 615 assists. Wilt Chamberlain was the only other player to achieve that statistic. The former center for the 76ers accomplished it twice: once during the 1966–67 campaign and once more the following year.
That’s not all, though.
Domantas Sabonis leads the NBA with 70 double-doubles over 74 games played, having recorded his 57th straight double-double of the year. The Hall of Fame big man Moses Malone, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Kevin Garnett are the other three players in NBA history to record more than 70 double-doubles in a single season, including the Kings big man.
If only the NBA hosted a game featuring its finest players, perhaps in the middle of the season. perhaps in a setting of an exhibition.
