Spain-based rumors claim that Liverpool is thinking about replacing Mo Salah in January with a Real Madrid player.
Salah, 31, had several proposals late in the summer transfer window from Al Ittihad of the Saudi Pro League, one of which was significant and totaled £150 million.
After Liverpool declined to transfer their finest asset, he has two goals and four assists in five games to start the current Premier League season.
Al Ittihad is expected to make another offer for Salah in January, and Liverpool could be willing to trade if they are not currently in the title race.
If Salah leaves Liverpool in January, the Spanish site Fichajes reports that Liverpool is interested in acquiring Real Madrid winger Rodrygo as a substitute.
However, it is alleged that Madrid won’t likely permit the Brazilian to depart unless Merseyside makes a “exceptional” offer.
Rodrygo, 22, is regarded as one of the top young prospects in football and has 32 goals in 171 games for Real Madrid.
With a transfer value of €200 million (£173 million), according to CIES Football Observatory, he is the fourth most valuable player in the world, after only Erling Haaland of Manchester City and club colleagues Vinicius Jr. and Jude Bellingham.
Liverpool could have signed Rodrygo for just €3m (£2.6m) back in 2017, a year before Real Madrid bought him from Santos.
The Guardian claim former Brazil and Manchester City midfielder Elano persuaded the then Santos president, Modesto Roma Junior, to abandon plans to sell Rodrygo to Liverpool.
Elano was working as an assistant coach at Santos and a 16-year-old Rodrygo was yet to make his first-team debut for the Brazilian club.
Liverpool’s bid eventually failed, allowing Real Madrid to sign the winger for €45m (£39m) the following year. And it will certainly take a lot more than that for Jurgen Klopp to finally get his man in the January transfer market.
