For the Dallas Mavericks, it was a tragic story on Sunday. The team lost Game 4 of their playoff series against the Los Angeles Clippers despite cutting a sizable halftime deficit. To compound the aggravation, their stars’ huge performances went in vain. While Luka Doncic finished with a triple double of 29 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, Kyrie Irving had a 40-piece. Nevertheless, there was one bright spot—Doncic’sperformancein the opening frame.
According to Mavs PR and ClutchPoints, the Mavericks star scored his 1,000th point during the playoffs, making him the third-fastest player in NBA history to reach 1,000 career points in the postseason. In 32 games, Doncic accomplished the feat for trailing only Wilt (29 games) and Michael Jordan (28 games).
The Mavericks were hoping to secure their third victory of the series going into their matchup on Sunday in order to take a decisive lead back to Los Angeles. It would not occur during the Clippers’ tenure. Los Angeles came out swinging, as the Clippers led 39–16 after 12 minutes thanks to a flurry of three-pointers in the first quarter alone.
