A FORMER Arsenal star may be about to make a sensational comeback with Bayern Munich.
Since the expiration of his contract with Olympiacos in June, Sokratis Papastathopoulos has been without a club.
The continued injury crisis, though, has Bild reporting that Bayern is considering adding Sokratis to their defense.
Matthijs de Ligt and Dayot Upamecano, the starting center backs for the German champions, are both out.
De Ligt has a knee issue, and Upamecano strained his hamstring against Freiburg on Sunday.
Additionally, Thomas Tuchel, the manager, has a strong working relationship with Sokratis.
The center-back and Tuchel were coworkers at Borussia Dortmund, where the player spent five years before transferring to Arsenal in 2018 and made 198 appearances.
Bayern, though, might hold off on determining De Ligt and Upamecano’s level of fitness until the conclusion of the international break.
Following that, the Bavarians will determine whether to pursue a different center defender during the January transfer window.
However, the former Chelsea manager will need both players to be available on December 12 when Bayern go to Old Trafford for their Champions League rematch against Manchester United.
