Boston — In a new ad for Allstate, Larry Bird battles a bird and causes mayhem in his attic, showcasing his acting prowess once again.
While the 67-year-old won’t be taking home any gold statues for his performance, Bird’s commercial, which aired during this year’s Oscars on Sunday night, was an amusing piece that should make both basketball and Celtics fans laugh.
In the “Mayhem” Allstate commercial, Bird is bothered by a bird making a lot of noise in his house. Naturally, that bird is never seen; Dean Winters, the embodiment of Mr. Mayhem, plays it instead. Whatever the bird was up to, though, it managed to force one of the greatest NBA players ever to leave his seat and head into his attic to address the problem.
Bird realizes that a basketball isn’t the best tool for solving his situation, so he picks a lacrosse stick, which is the next best thing.
Bird’s battle doesn’t go well; he ends up crashing through his floorboards and hitting his head (Larry Legend still has his ups and downs). During his Hall of Fame career, he enjoyed playing against the Atlanta Hawks far more than he did versus this bird of mayhem.
Having starred in multiple advertisements during his career, Bird is no stranger to the small screen. Though his Bird’s Allstate “Mayhem” commercial is a rather entertaining addition to his commercial repertoire, nothing will ever top “The Showdown,” the legendary shooting competition between Bird and Michael Jordan over a Big Mac.
