Barcelona is planning to compete for the transfer of Erling Haaland.

According to 90min, Barcelona is maneuvering to be a contender in the race to sign Manchester City starlet Erling Haaland.

Although Haaland’s most likely suitor has long been assumed to be Real Madrid, 90min insiders now feel that Barca is gearing up to make their own approach for the talented Norwegian striker.

Robert Lewandowski, wearing the number nine jersey for Barca, is currently directing their line. However, in the long run, Haaland is thought to be a strong contender to succeed the seasoned Pole, who just turned 35.

Since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund last summer, Haaland has excelled. In his first season, he not only helped the team win the Champions League for the first time, but also the Premier League Golden Boot and the European Golden Shoe. The 23-year-old set a Premier League record with 36 goals in the league, giving him a total of 52 goals across all competitions.

Even though Haaland has only been playing in the Premier League for a little over a year, City is already negotiating a new contract to give its attacker even more money.

When Haaland moved to Manchester, he signed a five-year contract, although it contained various release clauses. One of them was eliminated when Pep Guardiola agreed to his contract extension, so there is no option in 2024 that would have allowed him to go for £172 million (€200 million) the next year.

However, 90 minutes has been informed that clauses must go into effect starting in 2025. They don’t name the club, but they do indicate that the player may depart for a predetermined sum, which is said to be £150 million (€175 million). That quantity will decrease year after year as well.

One of the reasons Barcelona is starting to pitch itself as a prospective landing site for Haaland is the possibility that he may leave for a set price in 2025. The club has been working hard lately to get its finances in order, but being able to plan ahead two years is helpful.

In exchange for removing the impending release conditions, City would pay Haaland the highest basic wage in the Premier League—more than £500,000 per week—making him the league’s best-paid player. However, Haaland currently has little incentive to take such action.

The situation was described to AS last year and why it is unlikely to change very soon by Rafaela Pimenta, the agent for Haaland who succeeded the late Mino Raiola in running the stable after his death.

In 2022, Pimenta stated, “When a player joins a club, I do everything I can to create a situation where the key is in their hands. “Well, you go, don’t you, if tomorrow you decide you don’t want to be there any longer because you dislike it, they don’t pay you well, or your wife wants to live in Paris. When a player lacks discretion, I don’t like it. In 25 years, I have completed all the contracts for this company. they are all. There was never a situation where a player indicated they wanted to go but were unable to.
