Guardiola, the manager of Man City, admits telling Phillips to quit.

Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, acknowledges that he pushed Kalvin Phillips to leave this summer.

Since arriving at City from Leeds United last year, the England midfielder has had to compete for playing time.

We talked about saying goodbye internally, even a loan, but he has opted to stay here, Guardiola stated on Friday.

He is accepted here because he is a good man and doesn’t grumble.

The manager added, “He has to be ready and will still be important for us.”
