One thing that many athletes do not do is retire at the top of their game, as Bjorn Borg did. Despite being only 26 years old, he made the decision to stop playing in 1983. Granted, he made a brief reappearance in the early 1990s, but playing did not appear to be his true passion. Now, however, he has made a different decision to lead Team Europe as captain and has not held back when questioned about the state of tennis as it stands, including Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic’s futures.
Nadal, in Bjorn Borg’s opinion, is almost done competing. It’s true that Nadal has battled injuries, so it would be unrealistic to think he will ever be completely fit for extended periods of time. However, Borg hinted that Nadal might just give up on his career as a professional tennis player for another reason.
