View our expanded highlights of the 3-0 win over West Ham United.
City had the upper hand for the first 45 minutes, but we were unable to capitalize on our superiority with goals.
Erling Haaland and John Stones both saw close-range headers from their respective teams fall wide, while Rodrigo’s 25-yard thunderbolt touched the foot of the post before swerving away from danger.
A different tale emerged in the second half as we turned up the style.
Nathan Ake scored the game’s first goal with a powerful header on the 50th minute, and then Haaland added a second with a beautiful chip on the 70th, giving him a record-breaking 35 goals in the Premier League, breaking the previous mark of 34 established by Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole.
On minute 85, Phil Foden scored a spectacular goal to make it three. With this goal, City has now scored 1,000 goals under Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola accomplished the accomplishment more quickly than any other manager during the Premier League history, scoring those goals in just 404 games, or 2.47 goals per game.
The best result also returned us to the top of the standings, one point ahead of Arsenal with a match remaining. If we can defeat Leeds United on Saturday, before the Gunners play again, that number will rise to a very respectable four points.
