One person who is knowledgeable about Pittsburgh’s football culture is LaVar Arrington, a former NFL linebacker. Arrington was a tough, no-nonsense linebacker from North Hills who went on to have a distinguished career at Penn State. His play did, in fact, bear some similarities to the city of his birth.
Thus, it raises some questions when Arrington says that soon-to-be former Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson is “soft” and wouldn’t suit in Steel City.
According to Arrington, “I just don’t think his personality is a conducive personality for the Pittsburgh way” (Fox Sports, 2 Pros & A Cup of Joe). “He’s not tough.”
If Wilson is selected, the Pittsburgh Steelers are the clear favorite. Chad Johnson, a former wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals, even asserts to have inside knowledge that Wilson will sign with Pittsburgh.
Johnson stated on the Nightcap Show, “We gotta work on the Steelers now.” “I mentioned this many times before, but a little birdie told me Russell Wilson is visiting the Steelers.”
Wilson’s ostentatious suit style, in Arrington’s opinion, wouldn’t work in Pittsburgh. All in all, he simply believes he is a prima donna. When Wilson had an office of his own at the club facility, coaches in Denver felt the same way.
Despite the fact that the league is no longer a trendy spot. I understand. Guys dress and don these unique ensembles and accessories. Arrington remarked, “I’m just saying some of that stuff doesn’t fly in certain markets.”
In 2016, Wilson wed Ciara, a well-known singer-songwriter, dancer, model, and actor. In 2015, he made an acting appearance in the movie Entourage. Arrington simply believes that his grit has diminished. He believes he moved to Hollywood.
Wilson is a better quarterback than Kenny Pickett, according to Arrington, but he still doesn’t think Wilson is good enough to sign. Wilson’s play has become worse, therefore there wouldn’t be a significant improvement. Arrington believes that Wilson’s flamboyant outfits and demeanor are a contributing factor, but not the primary reason he doesn’t want Wilson in Pittsburgh.
He admitted, “I’m a little bit Neanderthal-ish on this.” “And I am aware that they are located in Pittsburgh’s North Side. If you are from the Burgh, you will understand what I mean completely.
