The future of defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi has been a subject of discussion as the Pittsburgh Steelers make their summer selections. Before making any final judgments, the Steelers are carefully considering their options in light of rumors that Ogunjobi could be a cut candidate.
The most recent information provided by The Athletic’s Mark Kaboly, a Steelers reporter, suggests that Ogunjobi’s situation might be safer than first thought. With this new information, Ogunjobi’s future with the Steelers appears bright.
On Wednesday, Kaboly appeared on the Black and Gold Three Rivers Podcast with Ed Troup to talk about the Steelers’ 2024 offseason and the team’s most recent headlines. Kaboly made a suggestion about what he believes the Steelers will need to accomplish in order to decide Ogunjobi’s contract status.
“You might have to bite the bullet, bro. Because of the strength of that defensive line, even though Larry Ogunjobi is getting a ton of money while not playing to that level, you might have to do what he says. You might have to tell him, “I have to pay you.” It’s just not good when you look at the depth there, so you probably want to cling on him for dear life.
It has been reported, according to Kaboly, that Ogunjobi will receive a bonus a few days following the commencement of the free agency window. This implies that if the Steelers discover someone else at defensive lineman who suits them better and at a lower cost, they may decide to part ways with him. Kaboly thinks Ogunjobi’s job is safe, but he is not sure this will be the result.
